Organising Committee France 2023 has set the ambition of organising a Rugby World Cup as socially and environmentally responsible as possible. France 2023 acts to reduce its environmental impact as much as possible, and work towards a sustainable and circular economy.

To achieve these two objectives, the Organising Committee has set up a practical program for responsible waste management, in which Volvic is associated in order to raise spectators' awareness on waste sorting.

Educating people around recycling and increasing the collection rate: a major challenge for Rugby World Cup 2023 and Volvic

During the tournament, Volvic devised several educational activities and campaigns to address this issue.

Activations:

  • “Voting" bins: at the Stade de France, "voting bins” will be set up outside and inside the stadium to encourage fans to dispose of their bottles in the bin they wish to vote for.
  • The "green paths": signage on the ground will also be present in the nine stadiums hosting the competition to guide fans to the sorting bins.

Awareness campaigns:

To round off the activities, awareness posters will be put up above the sorting areas. These signs will be put up by CITEO, in collaboration with Volvic, and will take two forms:

  • “Mobilisation" posters featuring Antoine Dupont, captain of the French rugby team, World Rugby Player of the Year 2021 and Volvic ambassador, encouraging fans to sort their waste.
  • Sorting posters to help you find the instructions for an efficient and clear sorting.

The « Green Brigade »:

Represented by volunteers from Team 2023 and trained by France 2023 and Volvic, the green brigade will be present in the nine stadiums of the competition to meet spectators and educate them about recycling.  It will encourage them to adopt the right sorting habits, both at the stadium and at home, in order to increase the collection rate.

Through this programme, almost 2.6 million spectators will be reached during the 48 matches of the competition, in the nine host stadiums.

An awareness programme that echoes Volvic's commitments

This awareness-raising programme is helping Volvic to meet its target of having 100% of its natural mineral water bottles made from 100% recycled material in France by 2025. This commitment is in line with Volvic's ambition to accelerate its transition towards a circular economy for its packaging. Since 2019, its small formats of natural mineral water (50cl and 1L) are made from 100% recycled plastic, as has its 8L jug.
