Head banger: Rory Lamont is expected to be fully recovered from his heavy knock and be able to train on Wednesday

L'ETRAT, 30 September - Injured Scotland full back Rory Lamont is expected to be fit for the team's next training session on Wednesday, according to team doctor James Robson.

"I have no doubt he will be fit and able for later in the week," Robson said on Sunday.

Lamont came off the field after landing awkwardly on his neck and head going for a high ball in the first half of his team's 18-16 victory over Italy in Saint-Etienne on Saturday night.

"When I got to him he was all right but very winded," Robson said. "He felt as if he could play on but then he was having difficulty seeing out of one side. He was seeing flashing lights so we took him off straight away."

Lamont was taken to hospital, where he had CT and MRI scans, the results of which were normal. Robson said Lamont's vision problem settled within 20 minutes.

"He got out (of hospital) early this morning. He feels absolutely fine."

Unpleasant

Lamont's brother and team-mate, wing Sean Lamont, described seeing his brother unconscious on the pitch as unpleasant.

"It was not nice seeing your brother sprawling unconscious on the field. It's not great," Sean Lamont said.

"It was a heavy landing and he wasn't moving at all. It was a drop on the head from a decent height."

He said the time it took for Rory to regain consciousness dragged. "To me it felt like it took ages but it was probably only about 20 seconds before his legs started to move."

He said he tried to focus on the game after his brother went off. "You've got to switch to the job. There are other things to distract you. He went off the pitch but the game continued."

Sean Lamont said he expected his younger brother, who was resting on Sunday afternoon, to be "absolutely fine".

"We went to see him later (on Saturday night) and he was sitting on his hospital bed, getting pelters from my missus for still being in his dirty kit, absolutely stinking."

Robson said a few of Scotland's forwards were "bruised and battered" following the match but he expected a full squad to report for training on Wednesday.
