Indonesia win second A5N Regional Tournament
Kirk Arundale prepares to tackle a Cambodian player in a match which saw him score 25 points

Indonesia were crowned the winners of the HSBC Asian Five Nations Regional Tournament held in their capital city Jakarta after beating Cambodia 55-3 on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run on home soil to two matches.

The hosts, who had won their first ever Test match at home by defeating Laos 23-11 on Tuesday, started slowly with Cambodia dominating the first quarter before finding their feet with fly half Kirk Arundale leading the way with a 25-point haul.

Indonesia opened the scoring with second row Stephen Barber – the tournament’s leading try scorer – scooping up the loose ball to touch down after full back Ben Peter had made the break from the halfway line.

Nathan Flax doubled Indonesia’s lead with Arundale again converting the try and then kicking his first penalty of the match as the hosts established a 17-0 half-time lead against a side beaten 33-0 by Laos in the tournament’s opener seven days earlier.

That advantage soon became 31-0 as two lapses in concentration by the Cambodian side saw Arundale and Flax both cross for tries in the first five minutes of the second half, the fly half converting both.

Full back Peter was rewarded for a number of jinking runs with Indonesia’s next try just before the hour mark as the hosts starved Cambodia of possession, before wing Sylvester and replacement second row Victor took the try tally to seven and the lead to 52-0.

Cambodia finally opened their account with a penalty from full back Malen Sun, before Arundale had the final say with a 75th minute penalty for Indonesia to complete his impressive haul of a try, seven conversions and two penalties.

The Philippines won the first of four HSBC Asian Five Nations Regional Tournaments by beating hosts Guam and Brunei earlier this month. The two others in Qatar and Kyrgyzstan will both take place in September.
