Match officials named for first JWC match day
The match official appointments have been made for the opening round of the IRB Junior World Championship 2012 in South Africa on June 4.
The key developmental event for players and coaches also provides a similar role for aspiring Test referees looking to follow in the footsteps of Jaco Peyper, Chris Pollock and Jérôme Garcès who have graduated from the Championship to the IRB's international panel in recent years.
The honour of kicking off the proceedings at the University of Western Cape Stadium in Cape Town goes to South Africa's Lourens Van Der Merwe, who will take charge of the Pool C match between 2011 third-place team Australia and Scotland at 14:45 local time.
New Zealand's Glen Jackson, a former professional player, will referee the opening match at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch which sees Wales take on Fiji (14.45) in a repeat of a match that caused an upset in last year's fifth to eighth place semi final.

IRB Referees Manager Paddy O'Brien said: "This really is a special event when it comes to the personal and professional development of aspiring Test referees. It is a unique learning environment on and off the field. It prepares them for what to expect in major championships."
"The group of eight referees here in Cape Town have been identified by the SANZAR and ERC Referee Managers as those with potential to go all the way to Rugby World Cup 2015 owing to their performances in Super Rugby and the Heineken Cup."
"Along with Lyndon Bray, Tappe Henning, Clayton Thomas and Donal Courtney, I look forward to working with the group of referees, assistant referees and television match officials as the road towards England 2015."
