Strong response to the launch of 'The Pack'
'The Pack' for Rugby World Cup 2015 will be made up of 6,000 volunteers

Tournament organisers England Rugby 2015 reveal the locations of the upcoming try-outs (selection events) after thousands of people from across the UK apply to volunteer at RWC 2015.

  • 20,000 applications received to join 'The Pack'; the volunteer programme for RWC 2015
  • The search to find the 6,000 volunteers who will make up 'The Pack' is well underway
  • Try-outs will be held between June and December 2014 in every RWC 2015 host city
  • Members of the ‘The Pack’ will be confirmed in early 2015
On February 12, England Rugby 2015 Ambassador Jonny Wilkinson helped launch ‘The Pack’ and the search to find the 6,000 volunteers who will welcome rugby and the world to England next year.

Since the application process opened on March 17, around 20,000 people have applied to volunteer at RWC 2015. Applicants will now be invited to attend try-outs between June and December in the 11 host cities across England and Cardiff. The try-out venues will be as follows:

‘The Pack’ will be the faces of the tournament, helping to deliver RWC 2015 across England and in Cardiff. In line with the vision for RWC 2015, ‘The Pack’ will have rugby at heart with 75 per cent of volunteers set to be recruited from rugby clubs in England and Wales.

In addition, ‘The Pack’ will bring 1,500 potential new volunteers into rugby through a national campaign, with the aim of retaining them beyond 2015 as part of the tournament’s legacy. Volunteers will play a key role in the delivery of the six-week tournament with a range of roles, including transport, meet and greet, accreditation and way-finding, and will all vary in duration.

Chief Executive of England Rugby 2015, Debbie Jevans, said: “I am extremely grateful to everyone who has applied to volunteer at Rugby World Cup 2015. Everything is in place now for a great tournament as we move into the delivery phase of our major campaigns. We can already see the great enthusiasm for RWC 2015 500 days out, with over 20,000 applications to join 'The Pack' and the positive response to the Rugby Community Ticket programme.”
