Known for their physicality, relentless dominance in set-piece and structured attack, the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 hosts will be hunting for glory in front of a fervent home crowd next year.
The Red Roses were pipped to the post during the last edition of the tournament in 2022, as New Zealand became the first host nation to win a Women’s Rugby World Cup after defeating England 34-31 at a sold-out Eden Park.
England were soon able to return to winning ways, as the side were crowned the inaugural WXV 1 champions in New Zealand after a clean sweep of victories over Australia, Canada and New Zealand, capping off an impressive calendar year in 2023 which saw them claim an unbeaten run of matches.
England have also set new records for attendance within women’s rugby, having achieved a world record crowd of 58,498 at Twickenham during the 2023 Women’s Six Nations Championship, while sealing a Grand Slam after a nail biting 38-33 victory against France.
John Mitchell’s Red Roses have since went on to clinch a third successive Women’s Six Nations Grand Slam this year after a dominant 21-42 victory against France in Bordeaux, securing their spot in this year’s WXV 1 competition in Canada.
England have a plethora of stars within their squad who will be vying for a place at next year’s global showpiece event. England captain Marlie Packer was named as World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Year 2023 in partnership with Mastercard, while Ellie Kildunne has recently been crowned the 2024 Women’s Six Nations Player of the Championship after topping the statistics leaderboard across five categories, including top try-scorer (9).
