Yomitan is located on the western coast of the central part of Okinawa Prefecture. Surrounded by the Zakimi Castle ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the east and the bright blue coral reefs to the west, Yomitan is said to be “Japan’s most populated village.” Traditional crafts, such as the Yachimun pottery and the Yuntanza hanaui textiles are popular in the area and visitors can experience the local culture and traditions by participating in the Yomitan Festival which is put together by all of the local residents.
