Tendo City

Tendo City is known for being a city of shogi (Japanese chess), as it produces the majority of shogi game pieces. Every year in April, Tendo City hosts a game of human chess (shogi). The city holds the Guinness World Record for the largest number of games of Japanese chess played simultaneously in one location (over 2,300 games were played). They are a big producer of fruit, such as the La France pear, and are one of Japan’s leading sake producers with many sake breweries located in the city. With numerous hot springs, Japanese inns and hotels in the area, Tendo City is a captivating and bustling city.
