Rugby World Cup 2019 will deliver 55 team camps to the teams.

These team camps will consist of an outdoor and indoor training venue, a swimming pool, gym and accommodation and will be utilised by the teams during the tournament.

Team Camp Selection applications were received by 76 applicants (90 cities and prefectures) the length and breadth of Japan.

With the support of Host Cities, corporations and Universities, JR2019 have procured additional training venues in order to provide enhanced training environment for teams the Host Cities too. Team camps are at the heart of the tournament experience for teams, a home away from home.

Yamagata City
Yamagata is a city that is rich in nature and history as it has long prospered as a castle town. There are many interesting sites to visit in Yamagata City, including Zao Onsen and Yama-dera (a scenic temple located in the mountains). Zao Onsen is a hot spring village that is said to have a history of over 1,900 years since opening, and the surrounding mountain range is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts and for enjoying views of the “snow monsters” (hard rimes that form on the trees lining the mountainside). Yama-dera is famed for having one of the most famous haiku poet`s of the Edo Period, Matsuo Basho, visit and compose a haiku there. A breathtaking view will await you, after making it up the stone steps leading up to the temple perched on the top of the mountain.

Tendo City
Tendo City is known for being a city of shogi (Japanese chess), as it produces the majority of shogi game pieces. Every year in April, Tendo City hosts a game of human chess (shogi). The city holds the Guinness World Record for the largest number of games of Japanese chess played simultaneously in one location (over 2,300 games were played). They are a big producer of fruit, such as the La France pear, and are one of Japan’s leading sake producers with many sake breweries located in the city. Nagasaki Prefecture
Nagasaki Prefecture boasts a population of 1.34 million and is made up of approximately 970 islands. The Prefecture is steeped in history and each area tells a different side of the history, such as the Iki Island – mention is made of a country called “Iki” (Iki-koku) in the Gishi Wajinden (Legends of the Wa People” chapter of the ancient Chinese text Record of the Three Kingdoms, Goto) – was the last port of call on the Japanese missions to Tang China, Tsushima island – an important location that played a vital role in the Japan-Korea diplomatic relationship and friendship, Hirado and Nagasaki – both helped to act as a bridge to the Western world, and Shimabara Peninsula – where Christianity flourished. Furthermore, remnants of the industries that helped build a foundation for the modern industries that Nagasaki currently has can be found all across the prefecture. Nagasaki is also home to many cultural properties, including the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, “Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution” and the “Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region”.

Nagasaki City

Shimabara City
Located at the foot of Fugen-dake, Shimabara City commands a view of the Ariake Sea. Shimabara is one of the few agricultural producers in the prefecture that has an abundance of seafood. Shimabara is also home to historical sites that have been designated as a Geopark and is an attractive city where you can enjoy the spring waters and the hot springs.

Kumamoto Prefecture

Kumamoto City
Located on the northwest side of Kumamoto Prefecture, the rolling hills created by the outer ring of volcanoes can be found on the east of the city and low plains formed by the Shirakawa river delta, to the south of the city. Yomitan Village
Yomitan is located on the western coast of the central part of Okinawa Prefecture.
