Getting to and from Ashton Gate Stadium

Top Tip

Ashton Gate Stadium is linked to the Fan Zone in Millennium Square via a dedicated Rugby World Cup 2025 walking route that takes in some of the key cultural sites in Bristol. Why not get your step count up, take a stroll and avoid the match day traffic.

Top Tips

Fans planning to travel on intercity train services should book their travel in advance to ensure that they can book seats on their desired service and to secure advance tickets at the most affordable rate. Tickets can be purchased from 12 weeks prior to the date of travel. To book all train travel visit the National Rail website.

Routes served: Bristol Temple Meads is a major transport hub in the South West with direct trains to/from London, Exeter, Cardiff, Newcastle, Weston-Super-Mare, Manchester and many more.

Be Aware!

Fans should note that Parson Street station has limited capacity and does not have step free access. Fans looking to travel by train should make their way to Bristol Temple Meads station.

 

Please note that last intercity services of the day to some major UK cities will have left Bristol Temple Meads prior to the conclusion of the match on Friday 19th September. Please make sure to check timings of last services before booking your travel and consider staying the night in Bristol to enjoy everything the city has to offer over a weekend.

🚶 On Foot

On Foot

A dedicated walking route links our city centre Fan Zone to the stadium and takes approximately 45 minutes via some of Bristol’s main cultural sites. Follow our Rugby World Cup branded directional signage via Pero's bridge and then across Prince Street bridge and all the way down Museum Street, Gas Ferry Road to Hanover Street and then along the river to pass The Cottage Inn. Cross the river at Ashton Avenue Bridge and follow the walking path to cross Jessop Underpass and walk through Greville Smyth park to enter the stadium via Ashton Road.

🚲 By bicycle or 🛴 scooter

Cycle racks are available at Aston Gate stadium for those fans looking to arrive by bicycle. Make sure to arrive early though as bike racks can fill up fast on match days.

Dott e-bikes and scooters apply geo-fencing around the stadium footprint which means that they must be docked at dedicated parking areas along Winterstoke Road and Marsh Road. Please remember to only ride one person per e-scooter and park them responsibly in locations that will not present a hazard for fellow fans.

🚗 By Car

Parking is available at both the Portway Park and Ride site and the Brislington Park and Ride site. Dedicated match day shuttles operate from both of these locations offering a convenient service to bring fans straight to Ashton Gate Stadium. These must be pre-booked. Please see Match day Shuttle section for more information.

Please note that there is no spectator parking available at Ashton Gate Stadium. This is with the exception of a limited number of accessible parking spaces which are available to purchase for accessible ticket holders via the official Rugby World Cup 2025 parking website. All accessible parking must be purchased in advance.

Parking restrictions are in place in surrounding streets as part of the Southville Residents Parking Scheme.

Some of the roads near Ashton Gate Stadium sit within Bristol’s Clean Air Zone. Vehicles entering the zone must meet the zone’s emission standards or else a daily charge of £9 must be paid.

Bristol has a number of city centre car parks that can be paid for on the day from where fans can walk to Ashton Gate Stadium. Fans should expect congestion during peak hours and be aware of the Clean Air Zone (CAZ) and Resident Parking schemes that are in place in Bristol. Find out more on the Visit Bristol website.

🚌 By Match Day Shuttle

Three dedicated shuttle services will serve Ashton Gate Stadium on match days. All shuttle services must be pre-booked in advance. It will not be possible to pay for match day shuttle services on the day. Shuttle tickets can be purchased via the official Rugby World Cup 2025 parking website.

🚐 By Private Coach or Minibus

Limited private coach and minibus parking will be available at Avonline which is located on Ashton Vale Road, approximately 5 minutes’ walk from Ashton Gate Stadium.

Coach and minibus parking must be booked in advance. Parking can be pre-booked on the official Rugby World Cup 2025 parking website. Coach and minibus parking will not be available to book on the day so do make sure to book yours in advance.

Drivers should make sure to closely follow directions shared in their booking confirmation and make sure to display their parking pass in their vehicle windscreen as instructed.

🚕 By Taxi

If planning to travel by taxi fans should note that there is no dedicated taxi rank near Ashton Gate Stadium.

Geo-fencing is in place around Ashton Gate stadium on match days which limits the locations that rideshare apps can drop off and pick up passengers. The closest drop off point is the Sainsbury’s supermarket on Winterstoke Road.

Please note that road closures will be in place as part of the match day operations and as a result certain roads close to the stadium will be impacted. Fans are recommended to have taxis drop off and pick up at least ½ a mile from the stadium where it is legal and safe to do so.

🛥️ By Boat

Bristol Ferry Boats are operating a dedicated Rugby World Cup 2025 match day service that will link the city centre and Fan Zone location and The Cottage from where fans can enjoy the short walk to Ashton Gate Stadium.

Frequency: Approximately every 40 minutes

Price: Up to 10 mins - £2 adult / £1.50 children (4-16)

Travelling to Bristol

🚆 By train

Bristol Temple Meads railway station is the largest rail hub in the west of England, with direct services available from London, Scotland, Wales, Manchester, Birmingham and other destinations across the South of England. Temple Meads is the most central train station within the city.

Bristol Parkway is another key train station in the north of Bristol and is easily accessible by direct train services from major cities, including London, Cardiff, and Birmingham. The station is a hub on the Great Western Railway (GWR) line, with frequent trains arriving and departing throughout the day.

If you are travelling from Europe, Eurostar train services operate to/from London St Pancras Station, from where there are trains to Bristol with a change at London Paddington.

🚐 By coach

Bristol is well served by a number of national and regional coach services, including Megabus and National Express. They all run services from across the country to Bristol. Bristol Bus Station is situated on Marlborough Street, near Broadmead shopping centre.

🚗 By car

Bristol boasts excellent road connectivity, located approximately 120 miles west of London via the M4 motorway, which typically takes around 2 to 3 hours to drive. The city is about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours from Birmingham, accessible via the southbound M5 motorway. Additionally, Bristol is roughly 1 hour 30 minutes away from Exeter, also reachable by the M5 motorway.

✈️ From the airport

Bristol Airport is located just a few miles south of Bristol City Centre with direct services to over 100+ destinations across Europe. If you are flying to Bristol, travelling to and from Bristol Airport by bus or coach is easy and convenient, with the Airport Flyer Express running 24/7 and taking less than half an hour to get into the city centre. Find out more about the services available here. Alternatively, taxis are available outside the terminal, with a typical journey time of about 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Car hire is available at the airport for visitors looking to drive themselves. Several major rental companies operate here, and advance booking is recommended during peak travel times.

🚌 By bus

The primary bus operator in Bristol is First Bus, offering a wide range of services across the city and surrounding areas including to popular areas like the City Centre, Clifton, the Harbourside and Temple Meads Train Station. You can plan bus journeys using their website or the First Bus app, with tickets available through the app or on the bus.

🚆 By train

Getting around Bristol by train is easy, with two main stations: Bristol Temple Meads in the city centre and Bristol Parkway in the north. Temple Meads connects to local stops like Clifton Down, Redland and Montpelier, as well as to major cities like London and Cardiff. Bristol Parkway offers routes to Birmingham and further north. 🚲 By bike

Bristol is the UK's first Cycling City and one of Europe's most bike-friendly destinations. Information on bike hiring, maps and route planning can be found here.

🚶🏿‍♂️ By foot

Bristol and its surrounding countryside have many opportunities for those wishing to enjoy a leisurely stroll or a hike. The city is often described as "best explored on foot" due to its high proportion of pedestrian-only areas, hidden streets and numerous parks and green spaces. 🛴 Electric Scooter Rental

Bristol is currently the location of one of a number of national electric scooter and bike (e-scooter and e-bike) trials in the UK, and Dott e-scooters and e-bikes are available to hire in the town via the Dott app. Please remember to only ride one person per e-scooter and park them responsibly in the correct locations.

🚕 By taxi and rideshare

Taxis are readily available in Bristol, with both traditional black cabs and private hire vehicles. Rideshare apps like Uber also operate in the area.

🚗 By car

Bristol has several on street and multi-storey car parks across the city in key locations, such as Trenchard Street Car Park (best for the University of Bristol and the O2 Academy), Cabot Circus Car Park (best for shopping) and College Street Car Park (close to the Cathedral and the Harbourside); although traffic can be congested during peak hours. Visitors looking to drive should be aware that a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) and Resident Parking schemes (RPS) are in place in Bristol.

There are several Park and Ride services which provide an excellent way to avoid city centre traffic, clean air zone and parking fees, including Long Ashton Park and Ride. More information on parking and Park and Rides can be found here.

There are EV charging points throughout Bristol, with real-time availability information available on apps like Zap-Map.

Enterprise Car Club and Co Wheels are the two main car club operators in Bristol, providing a variety of vehicle options and easily accessible locations for members. This service offers an alternative to private car ownership, allowing members to rent vehicles on an hourly or daily basis.
