Injury boosts as Australia names squad for women's RWC 2025

Australia, quarter-finalists last time out in New Zealand, declare their squad for women's Rugby World Cup 2025 in England.

Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp has named a 32-player squad for Women's Rugby World Cup 2025, including injured trio Charlotte Caslick, Siokapesi Palu and Brianna Hoy.

Caslick and Palu suffered injuries during last month's defeat to New Zealand, but are set to be fit in time for the showcase event. Hoy has not featured in 2025 after a long-term knee injury derailed her season.

The Wallaroos will head to the Rugby World Cup with one of their most experienced squads in recent memory, with 17 players returning from the last campaign in New Zealand in 2022, including Ashley Marsters and Trilleen Pomare preparing for their third World Cups.

Meanwhile, Caitlyn Halse (pictured) and Waiaria Ellis are set to become the youngest Australians to feature at a World Cup - younger than Millie Boyle's 19 years and 82 days - and Annabelle Codey will complete the first Australian father-daughter Rugby World Cup duo, with her father David having competed in 1987.

Yapp: A special group

"We are very proud of the squad and the journey the players and staff have been on for the past two years to get to this point," said Yapp.

"We have a very special group of people within this squad, diverse in culture and a range of ages and levels of experience in the game. A World Cup is the pinnacle event in sport and women’s rugby will showcase that in England later this month. We are ready to perform on the global stage and thank everyone who is supporting us on and off the field."

Australia get their campaign underway against Samoa in Manchester on 23 August before two further Pool A matches. against USA in York on 30 August and Samoa in Brighton on 6 September.

"Everyone at Rugby Australia would like to wish Jo and the Wallaroos all the very best at the Rugby World Cup in England," added Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh.

"The event promises to be the biggest ever with over 300,000 tickets sold, ensuring women's rugby continues to go from strength-to-strength as a global game. Jo has done a tremendous job with the team and we will be cheering them on ahead of their first pool match against Samoa on 23 August."
