York is incredibly well connected to the rest of the country by train with frequent services to most major UK cities, offering a very sustainable way to enjoy the rugby on show at York Community Stadium.

🚆 By Train

Top Tip

Fans planning to travel on intercity train services should book their travel in advance to ensure that they can book seats on their desired service and to secure advance tickets at the most affordable rate. Tickets can be purchased from 12 weeks prior to the date of travel. To book visit the National Rail website.

🚌 By Bus

Bus stops: Monks Cross Park and Ride, Monks Cross Vanguard, Huntington House

Routes served: 9, 12, 81 all serving York city centre and 20 serving Rawcliffe, Heworth or Osbaldwick

Frequency: Every 15-30 minutes depending on the route and time of day

Price: Park and Ride route 9 - £3.90 adult return, up to three children travel for free.
Single fares capped at £3.00 on all other routes.
All York family day ticket - £9.60, valid for up to 5 people (including up to 2 adults) on any bus in the York area on the day of issue

🚌 Match day Shuttles

Dedicated match day shuttle services are in operation from York City Centre and Grimston Bar Park and Ride site to York Community Stadium. The former offers a cheap and easy way to travel to the stadium from the city centre and train station and the latter a convenient place to park and beat congestion around the stadium.

Post-match pick up location: Monks Cross Park and Ride bus stop

Journey time: Approximately 15 minutes (Allow extra time following the match)

Hours of operation: 2 ½ hours prior to kick off until 1 hour after final whistle

Price: Adults - £3 single, Children - £1 single. All York tickets are valid on this service.

🚲 By bicycle

Cycle racks are available at York Community Stadium and at Huntington House car park for those fans looking to arrive by bicycle. Make sure to arrive early though as bike racks can fill up fast on match days.

🚗 By Car

Parking is available for fans at York Community Stadium on a pre-booked basis only.

Drivers should make sure to use exact postcodes/what3words locations and closely follow directions shared in their booking confirmation and ensure that they display their parking pass in their vehicle windscreen as instructed. Drivers should ensure that they do not use the postcode of the stadium in navigation systems as this will direct drivers to the wrong location and require a lengthy detour.

Accessible parking will be available in the Park & Ride site, please follow signs and direction from stewards upon arrival. Parking will be available to purchase for accessible ticket holders via the official Rugby World Cup 2025 parking website. All accessible parking must be purchased in advance.

Accessible parking for certain fixtures is already limited. The Match Day Shuttles section above details fully accessible shuttle services that will be available on match day.

There are a number of public car parks in the vicinity of York Community Stadium including Vangarde Shopping Park and Monks Cross Retail Park. Rugby World Cup fans should be aware that all public car parks have parking enforcement in place and should abide by the terms and conditions of individual car parks. Both Vangarde and Monks Cross Shopping Park boast a number of retail and dining outlets which vehicle owners are encouraged to visit in order to comply with terms and conditions outlined in the respective car parks.

Parking enforcement is in place until 18:00 at Vangarde Shopping Park.  For matches kicking off at 17:30 or later fans arriving after 14:00 will be able to park without the requirement for any validation as parking enforcement stops at 18.00. Fans arriving before 14:00 will need to spend a minimum of £5 at one of a number of Vangarde retailers and validate their parking at the Management Suite located next to Prezzo.

For matches kicking off earlier than 17:30 fans are able to park at Vangarde Shopping Park parking for a maximum of two hours free of charge. Fans wishing to park for longer than two hours on these match days will be required to spend a minimum of £5 at one of a number of Vangarde retailers and validate their parking with members of the customer service team operating in the shopping park, or by visiting the Management Suite located next to Prezzo.

Parking enforcement is in place 24 hours a day at Monks Cross Shopping Park. Fans are able to park in the Monks Cross Shopping Park car park for up to a maximum of four hours free of charge. Fans wishing to park for longer than four hours will be required to extend their parking at the Monks Cross Shopping Park customer care centre.

Vehicles parked in contravention to the terms and conditions of these car parks are liable to receive a fixed penalty notice. Fans parking at either Vangarde or Monks Cross Shopping Park are encouraged to patronise retailers within the Shopping Parks to minimise the chances of any such instances.

Resident parking schemes are in place in the area around the stadium. Vehicles parked in surrounding streets without the correct permits are liable to receive a fixed penalty notice.

Be Aware!

Fans should be aware that there are other events taking place in the city and region on a number of match days. As a result you can expect roads in the surrounding area to be busier than usual. Those fans looking to drive to matches in York are urged to allow plenty of time for their journey and should consider whether their journey can be undertaken via another mode of transport to avoid the traffic.

Fans should be aware that they are likely to face heavy congestion on leaving official Rugby World Cup 2025 car parks and on surrounding roads post-match. Please be patient and follow the instructions of stewards and traffic marshals.

🚐 By Private Coach or Minibus

Please note that there is no parking at York Community Stadium for minibuses or coaches. Groups travelling to matches at York Community Stadium by minibus or coach should head to the designated coach parks in York city centre and take onwards transport to the stadium via the dedicated matchday shuttles from the city centre. Coach parking can be found at Union Terrace and St George’s Field.

🚕 By Taxi

Fans looking to travel to York Community Stadium by taxi or rideshare should instruct drivers to drop off/pick up close to the stadium in a safe and legal location. There should be no taxi drop off / pick up on Kathryn Avenue.

Geo-fencing is in place around York Community Stadium on match days which limits the locations that rideshare apps can drop off and pick up passengers.

Travelling to York

🚆 By train

York Railway Station is well-connected with direct services from major cities like London (approx. 2 hours), Edinburgh (approx. 2 hours 30 minutes), and Manchester (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes).

If you are travelling from Europe, Eurostar train services operate to/from London St Pancras Station, from where there are trains to York with a change at Kings Cross.

🚐 By coach

National Express operates frequent services to York from various UK cities including London, Birmingham, Leeds and Newcastle. Coaches arrive at York Station, conveniently located within walking distance of York city centre.

🚗 By car

York is easily accessible via the A1(M) motorway and the A64 and A19. From London, York is approximately a 4-hour drive (210 miles via the A1(M) and A1). From Birmingham the city is around 2 hours 30 minutes away (140 miles via M1 and A1), and from Manchester the city is roughly 1 hour 20 minutes away (70 miles via M62 and A64).

✈️ From the airport

York is located close to Leeds and Manchester airports – all around 1 hour 30 minutes from York City Centre.

  • Leeds Bradford Airport is the closest airport to York, about 40 miles away. Visitors can take the hourly A1 Flyer bus from the airport to Leeds City Railway Station (journey time approx. 30 minutes), then board a direct train to York, with a travel time of around 25 minutes. Alternatively, the Coastliner bus can be caught to York.
  • Manchester Airport is approximately 90 miles from York, offering direct train services to York approximately every hour, with journey times of around 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Taxis, Ubers and pre-arranged airport transfer services are also available directly to York costing around £50 from Leeds and £100 from Manchester (though this will vary depending on the time of day and provider chosen). Car hire is available at these airport for visitors looking to drive themselves. Several major rental companies operate, and advance booking is recommended during peak travel times.

York’s bus network covers the city extensively. The First York app provides real-time information, routes, and schedules. York Park and Ride offers convenient bus travel to the city centre from the outskirts with frequent service from early morning until late evening. 🚶🏿‍♂️ On foot and 🚲 bike

York is a compact city, making it ideal for walking. Most major attractions are within a 20-minute walk from York Station. The Visit York website has a variety of walking and cycling routes that cover the historic parts of the city, including the Shambles, York Minster, and the medieval city walls. Walking and cycling routes are also signposted online at iTravel York.

🚕 By taxi and rideshare

York offers reliable taxi services that operate from York Train Station and various points around the city. Rideshare apps like Uber also operate in the area.

🚗 By car

Park and Ride options are located at 6 sites around York. Visitors can park outside the city and take a shuttle bus to the city centre, helping reduce city congestion. More information on Park and Ride options can be found here.

Enterprise Car Club is the main car club operator in York, providing a variety of vehicle options and easily accessible locations for members. This service offers an alternative to private car ownership, allowing members to rent vehicles on an hourly or daily basis.
