Rugby World Cup 2021 (playing in 2022) has today announced MediaWorks as an Official Sponsor, with less than 200 days to go until the pinnacle event in women’s 15s rugby.

MediaWorks is New Zealand’s leading radio and outdoor media company with over 2.4 million weekly listeners and over 5,000 outdoor touchpoints nationwide. The partnership with RWC 2021 will see it promote the tournament across its Mai FM, More FM nationwide network and More FM Northland radio brands, with additional support from on-air personalities including Nickson Clark, Sharyn and Bryce Casey and K’Lee McNabb who are also part of the tournament’s community ambassador programme as RWC 2021 Champions.

Speaking on the announcement, MediaWorks CEO Cam Wallace says MediaWorks is proud to partner with Rugby World Cup 2021 and continue to help elevate the profile of women's rugby.

"We have recently launched our Women's Network at MediaWorks so we're delighted to partner with events such as this which supercharge women's sport. We can't wait to get behind our world-champion Black Ferns and get Aotearoa excited about this momentous occasion."

Rugby World Cup 2021 will be contested by the top 12 women’s 15s teams in the world from 8 October to 12 November and is the first time the tournament will take place in the Southern Hemisphere. Matches will be played at three stadium venues in Auckland and Whangārei including Eden Park, Waitākere Stadium and Northland Events Centre.

Organisers are targeting a world record attendance at the triple-header opening match day at Eden Park where the five-time Rugby World Cup winners New Zealand will take on Australia. Eden Park will then create history again by becoming the first stadium to host both the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cup finals.

Rugby World Cup 2021 Tournament Director, Michelle Hooper, said: “Today’s announcement is hugely exciting to help us build excitement towards the tournament and contributes to our wider mission of raising the profile of women’s rugby in mainstream media. MediaWorks is a fantastic partner to support us on that journey and ensure we’re reaching Kiwis and sharing the opportunity to be involved in such an extraordinary occasion for women’s sport in Aotearoa."

The historic tournament is one of the Big Four events taking place in Aotearoa over the next 18-months, preceded by the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 this month and followed by the IWG World Conference on Women & Sport in November and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.
